Did you love the 2004 movie? Maybe you heard rumours that the Broadway production was something else, and were disappointed when the musical's London plans were cut short because of covid? Now Mean Girls The Musical is due in the West End at last, the date is June 2024, and it's official – your venue is the Savoy Theatre. The show has the same excellent music by Jeff Richmond, lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and book by Tina Fey. It's based on the smash hit 2004 movie, also written by Fey, which was in turn inspired by Rosalind Wiseman's 2002 novel 'Queen Bees and Wannabes'.
This brilliant high school musical premiered in Washington D.C in autumn 2017, directed by Casey Nicholaw who also choreographed. It transferred to Broadway in April 2018 but shut down in early 2020, before the end of the run, because of lockdown. There's a film of the musical being made as we write, due in cinemas for January 2024. The bitchiest girls in school await you, together with their nemesis Cady Heron, and the psycho-drama will blow your mind. Prepare for bitchy!
