Actress Amber Riley, long term star of TV's Glee, will make her stage début in a West End production of the popular 1981 Broadway musical Dreamgirls. The show's set in thrilling 1960s Detroit, the home of soul music, and charts the stellar rise of a girl soul band, the Dreams. Inspired by the life and time of Diana Ross, her affair with Berry Gordy and her band The Supremes, it's a sophisticated story rich in sweet soul music, a classic in a fresh new guise.
The 2006 movie of the show starred Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson, a hard act to follow. But Amber Riley has exactly what’s needed to take the show to its next level: a huge, rich voice, plus bags of experience and enthusiasm. She's honoured to play the the central role of Effie, an iconic role for a newcomer to the stage. Sonia Friedman produces, Casey Nicholaw directs and the show previews at the Savoy Theatre in late 2016, with an official opening date in December 2016. The West End is waiting with bated breath, so don't miss it!
